Mount Shasta City is a beautiful and quiet town located in Northern California at the foot of beloved Mt Shasta. This majestic mountain transmits a highly transformative energy that greatly nourishes the process of moving inward into the heart of silence.

The surrounding area is home to many incredible lakes, waterfalls, and hiking trails to enjoy in the summer time; skiing and snowshoeing during the winter; and the clean and pure headwaters of the Sacramento river all year round. It also offers a warm small town welcome with its main street boasting charming shops and restaurantsnatural foods grocery, a farmers market, and a variety of community events.

Getting Here

The closest airports to Mount Shasta City are the Rogue Valley International Airport located in Medford, OR and the Redding Municipal Airport in Redding, CA. The drive from Medford is a little under an hour and a half away, or just under 90 miles. The drive from Redding is just under an hour, or about 60 miles. You can rent a car from the airport or there are several members of the Sangha who are available to pick you up. Renting a car is maybe the most convenient way to get around and explore the area however there are many places to stay in town within walking distance of restaurants and stores. Members of the sangha often carpool to events of which you can likely partake. Please note, if you are planning to drive to Mount Shasta during the winter months, we recommend checking the road conditions on I5 as there are a couple of mountain passes that often require chains to cross. 

As most of our retreats are non-residential, it is our hope that you will be able to find comfortable accommodation that suits your budget. Here is a list of places to stay in the surrounding area, ranging from economy to upscale, that will help narrow your search.

Mount Shasta Resort
This upscale resort is located in the town of Mount Shasta, only a couple of miles from beautiful Lake Siskiyou. Here you will find luxurious accommodations with the option to rent your own private chalet. The resort offers fine dining, a golf course, and a spa.

Quaint B&B located just a block from downtown Mt Shasta.

Shasta Ranch
Economical B&B located in beautiful country location close to lake.  Just a mile from downtown Mt Shasta. 

Strawberry Valley Inn

Camping 
There are more camping options than we can mention in the Mount Shasta area. If you are coming during the Summer months and love the outdoors, then you will be quite happy staying at any of the spots mentioned in the link above. Here are a few favorites:

  • McBride Springs, $10 per night, no reservations; 4 miles from town of Mt. Shasta; nice sites with picnic tables, indoor bathroom, no showers; sacred spring next to campground; opens sometime in May (call Forest Service: 530-926-4511).

  • Panther Meadow, free, no reservations; 13 miles from town of Mt. Shasta; located next to beautiful, Panther Meadow, considered most sacred spot on mountain by Native Americans; sites less private than Mcbride; generally much more crowded and noisy than McBride, opens late June or July.

  • Wilderness camping, free. Park on any forest service road and set up your tent. Call the US Forest Service (530-926-4511) for suggestions.

Where to stay in Weed, CA

Stewart Mineral Springs 
Located a few miles north of Weed, this rustic and rejuvenating retreat center is home to the incredible healing mineral springs and includes a beautiful bathhouse and cedar sauna. Guests are invited to rent a small cabin, room, or camp. Most lodging (except for camping spots) come equipped with a kitchenette and private bathroom.

  • The Garden Cottage is a small and quiet retreat space within walking distance of downtown Mt Shasta City, stores, restaurants, and galleries with easy access to the surrounding beauty of the area. An ideal sanctuary for one person, it is surrounded by a a peaceful garden. Includes small fridge, toaster oven, shower/vanity/toilet, Wifi. Available year round with reservations.   • The Angel Room: A luxurious, private, sanctuary/retreat space is now being offered to a discriminating/discerning person. Located in the heart of Mt Shasta City. Just an easy walk from the center of town. The generous sized room is extremely light and bright. It's nicely appointed with a queen sized bed and a walk-in closet with ample storage space (sheets and towels are included). There is also room for a personal yoga or other movement practices in front of a huge picture window that offers mesmerizing views of beloved Mother Mt Shasta. The room is upscale and is being offered for a two night minimum stay. Single occupancy only. $45 per night.   • Magical Angel House: Three blocks from downtown Mt Shasta City, private, quiet, Mt. Shasta view, surrounded 3 sides by wetlands, front yard pond.   • Renovated historic building currently has one room available. The private room shares two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, living room, and laundry. All new, clean, and tastefully decorated. Free wifi. The building is located directly across from the Headwaters of the Sacramento river. It's a two-minute drive or short walk to the center of Mt Shasta City.
